WAML Framework

Wirkle's WAML (Wireless Action Markup Language) framework is Wirkle's patented technology (US Patent 7406329) which was also nominated as a finalist in the Mobile Monday Global Peer Awards in Barcelona in 2007. The framework provides a very simple way to make web content usable on the small screens of mobile devices whose form factor is very different from the PC.

Most of the content available on the Internet has links to other content, for example, HTML has "a href" tags that link to other HTML pages. This is not easily viewable on the small screens of mobile phones, which mostly do not have a pointing device allowing one click on a point on the screen. Moreover, the display screens are small and are on a low bandwidth internet connection.

Enabling web content via automated fashion, throws away the usability of the content. The other alternative is to build a mobile wap site from scratch, which is a costly affair and also is maintenance overhead. The WAML framework acts as a middle approach that can provide usability and can link to existing Web, RSS and XML based content sources to deliver usable content on mobile devices.

WAML framework enables existing web content providers to easily mobile-enable their html content that they provide today in a customized manner for the small screens of handheld devices. The framework aggregates content and mobile enables it smoothly.

The framework enables easy delivery of personalized content to the users. Personalization is done via specifying WAML Content Personalization. WAML also provides a simple, intuitive, easy to use communication way for the small screens of mobile phones or handheld devices.

In case you are looking to deliver content on mobiles via an application for instance a mobile news site, a mobile blog, a media publishing site or looking to mobile enable your existing social network on the web, Wirkle's WAML framework can provide an easy way out.
